I am just wondering whether this is a problem with firefox on ppc, or with my particular install of it. The problem is that after some hours of browsing, the performance of firefox is seriously going down, to the point that it's just unworkable anymore. Then the user interface will react very very slowly, consuming a lot of cpu power, and pages will also render really slowly. More people who noticed this ? Actually, i had this isue with all previous firefox versions on ppc, though i never had this problem on x86.

I use firefox, usually all day long and I very seldom have
any problem. I have an odd crash here and there but I
don't fell that the performances are going downhill.

What is your hardware?

My hardware is an iBook G3 800Mhz. I think i never had a real crash, only the seriously degrading performance. Hmm.. normally i never restart firefox, only when this happens. Normally i don't reboot my laptop, over night i just let it sleep. As of now (as seen in 'top'), my firefox has been running for over 7 hours, and the problem hasn't appeared yet, so it does take sometime till it happens. Now i installed an extension that will save all pages i'm visiting and re-open them when restarting firefox, so i just restart firefox when it starts to slow down.

I am on an iMac G4 but I don't think that's relevant to the problem.
From what you say, you stress the application much more than I
do. I usually don't let Firefox run overnight, i even usually shutdown
the computer unless I have jobs running or I go overseas and need
access. I think that your problem may be of interest to the mozilla
developpers, they usually try to stress the application but they
have time and availability constraints. I don't remember where
you should take it, try the mozillazine forum.

Cheers,
Francois

Just for someone who might find this post... the problem is still there with firefox 0.9.3. But this behavior is also present in the x86 versions. A lot of people in this thread experience the same kind of slow down in rendering.
