If I run mirrorselect from the liveCD, it works. It errors about a missing portageq command, but still manages to test many mirrors for the fastest.

Now that I have a system up and running (2004.2 ppc64 stage3), mirrorselect gets an "unknown host" error from netselect, and terminates.

Has anyone encountered this and solved it? I'm having a difficulty tracking down documentation on this, so I can see why it would work differently in the liveCD environment.

Ive never used mirrorselect on a live system. I just update the mirrors in make.conf manually. Theres a list somewhere on the gentoo site.

Is it on your new system?
On another box awhile back, I had to do emerge mirrorselect to
get it installed...worked like a charm after that...

HTH,

Yes, it's on a new dual G5 running ppc64. I also had to emerge it to get it, but that version is broken. I don't really have high expectations of gentoo since it's pretty new, and ppc64 is also new. I just wanted to report the issue. If I ever want to update the mirror list, I'll just boot an old gentoo snapshot.
