I have 25 - PowerMac 5400/180 that a local community center would like to have as Kiosk type Computers for there library. Has anyone had any experience setting up Gentoo (or an other Linux Distro's) for this Mac? Is it possible? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From the lack of response i have a feeling that this type of Mac wont work with Linux. Kind of figured that just from the lack of info via google serach. Oh well have to goto plan B.

I'm just trying to install it on 7300/200 and yes I have problems. It won't compile. Looks like I'll have to find older livecd.
But if anyone knows the 2004.1 works for the oldworld machines I'd be glad to hear about it.

livecd will not work on old powermacs 7100,8100,9100, 7500, etc. What you can do is load mklinux. If you google for it you can download the sources and install a working system.

I installed it on my old 8100, but was not able to bootstrap a working gentoo with it.
