i am on dialup, and i have an ibook g3 (rev 2.2)....

now this peice has a junky winmodem clone(conexant), except there arnt any drivers (those buggy linuxant kernel 2.4 only drivers dont count)

right now, i can use linux for everything except the internet, and i keep having to use osx for that.

this has toi change. everything ive done inlinux are superior, and i dont want to have to keep rebooting....

what is the best solution for a modem.

the one i have figured out, is getting a keyspan serial to usb adaptor (i can get it w/ shipping for 33$US) and then getting a usrobotics serial modem. (i can get that for 83$US) that totals to 116$US...

[EDIT]
just figured out that the the converter (usa-19qw) that works for linux... is not made anymore. what they make now (usa-19hs) is not compatible..

so unless someone has a good idea (i dont want to get into the ebay scene), im shot anyway....
[/EDIT]
[EDIT2]
its seems the people who said that were mistaken.... i guess im the idiot...
[/EDIT2]

the other solution i was thinking about was using an airport (the base has a modem by itself) but the non-extreme cards that my laptop needs are WAY to expensive....

is there another solution for less that 116$US?

help me get out of osx!

thanks,

Aren't there any USB modems that work with Linux? That would save the trouble of a USB->serial converter, and hopefully could be bus powered so you wouldn't need a power adaptor either.
