I am wondering about HFS+ Journaling. The YDL site says to format the mac w/o Journaling. Is this also true for Gentoo? I will be getting a 12" PB soon. I really wish Broadcom would stop being a douche bag and release linux drivers. But shouldn't the OSX driver be easily ported to linux since its based on BSD? Or a wrapper program like linuxant?

i am not sure about journaling. but i can mount my original HFS+ partitions without problems and afaik i have journaling switched on in os-x. just try it out, and if it doesn't work you can always switch journaling off.

cheers,
jens

A quick question, I also have HFS+ on my OSX partition with journaling
enabled. I can read the content but I can't write. I had a message
somewhere that my HFS+ partition was mounted read only because
it was not unmounted properly.
Can you write on your HFS+ partition?
For info the relevant bit of my fstab is as follow:
/dev/hda4 /mnt/OSX hfsplus user,noatime,rw 0 0

Cheers,
Francois

my hfs+ is mounted "rw" and i never had any problems (at least in those rare cases where i had to mount it). most of the time, however, i either don't mount it at all (i have a shared ext3 partition for linux/os-x) or only jump into my other home directory.

May be my problem is that my OSX partitions is always mounted.
I have a link for my OSX home directly in my linux home directory.

I have noticed that gentoo remount partitions read only just
before shutdown. That make all remounted partitions look unclean
at the next boot and force a check. Gentoo does that both
on x86 and ppc and I never had that behavior with any other
distro I can remember. I think that's related to my problem.
If you don't have that behavior, I'd like to know how I ended up
having it on both my iMac and my old pc.
