Kernel 2.6
(All) # make all && make modules_install

replace 2.6.7 with your kernel-version
(Apple/IBM) # cp vmlinux /boot/kernel-2.6.7

where the heck is the vmlinux file ?

cant find it after i did the first step!!

First of all? Are you on the PowerPC platform? You might have mentioned...

make && make modules_install

then look in ./arch/'your arch'/boot

No clue, I'm no PowerPC expert...

check /proc/cpuinfo

or paste 'cat /proc/cpuinfo' in here...

The "G4" in the output of 'uname', you talk about... is that on the PPC LiveCD? if so, then it's ok... the livecd uses the same kernel for G3 and G4 (the kernel works on both), that's the reason you see G4 there. Your cpu as detected by the kernel can be seen in /proc/cpuinfo. On my G3 800Mhz, this gives:
Code:
yoshi@guava yoshi $ cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor       : 0
cpu             : 750FX
temperature     : 19 C (uncalibrated)
clock           : 800MHz
revision        : 2.3 (pvr 7000 0203)
bogomips        : 1585.15
machine         : PowerBook4,3
motherboard     : PowerBook4,3 MacRISC2 MacRISC Power Macintosh
detected as     : 257 (iBook 2 rev. 2)
pmac flags      : 0000000b
L2 cache        : 512K unified
memory          : 640MB
pmac-generation : NewWorld

I /think/ the module for the OSS drivers is "dmasound_pmac", and for the alsa-driver it's "snd-powermac". But i have everything compiled in my kernel and not as modules, so i'm not 100% sure, but you should be able to find it on these forums, if that doesn't work.
