Hi all,
I have an iBook I bought off eBay, have repartitioned it, and am starting to get the Gentoo install going. At the first part of the install guide, it mentions putting the video card, resolution, and refresh rate in as a kernel boot option.
I cannot for the life of me, while in OSX figure out what video card I have so I could look up the specs.

Can someone give me a clue here as to what I have or how I can find out what's in it so I can look up the values?

Thanks in advance,

cayenne

I activated the root user in OSX...tried lspci (I'm familiar with it in linux), but, said command not found.

I'm trying to find out what kind of card I have BEFORE I start the linux install....

Just a little more info:

I have a G3 iBook...800 Mhz 30G drive...640M Ram, combo CDRW/DVD drive (not superdrive), and the info says it is a version 2.2 iBook.

I'm looking in the Apple System Profiler...and it just doesn't telll all the hardware on this unit. I got it off eBay, and while it has all the software and hardware...I got no documentation with it.

Thanks in advance...

just boot to the live CD and then type lspci. The live CD should have the lspci command. Booting to the CD will not do anything to your computer.

nevermind, I did a google search and found a website with the ibook, it tells you everything in it including the video card. http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/product_info/details__cat_id--462,prod_id--7575269.html

I'll bet it's a Radeon 7500. I've got the same book. Great machine, BTW.

Most everything except the modem is supported too. If you need some help configuring, you can get my config files here:

www.stuporglue.com/gentoo

I'm using the same config with 2.6.8.1_r4 now, and it's working great, including bootsplash!
