I can´t solve the reiserfs problem it seems to be reiserfs itself the harddrive and the boot process is very fast but when the linux kernel starts and swap is mounted ONLY the reiserfs partition takes 5 MIN to be mounted. DMA is on, etc/fstab etc. all okay even hdparm says the harddrive is fast. Its´s fast when it´s mounted but not the mount process of / reiserfs.
I HATE REISERFS IT SUCKS! :x
I wanted to use reiserfs because of my battery but I think i will make an tarball of the / Partition and reformat it with JFS. But my only problem is howto do it in the best way?
Preperation ETC ?
I´ve got only an G4 Mac with OSX but not with Linux to backup my Ibook G4 i could do this with the LiveCD but how? :?

You could boot up with your live cd and mount the partition that you want to reformat and then copy its contents to another mounted partition with enough free space. Format the old partition to jfs or whatever then copy everything back.

Boot with livecd
mount /dev/reiserfs /tmp/bad
mount /dev/lotsaspace /tmp/good
mkdir /tmp/good/backup
cd /tmp/bad
tar lcf - .|(cd /tmp/good/backup; tar xpvf - )
umount /tmp/bad
mkjfs /dev/reiserfs (Whatever the command is)
mount /dev/jfs /tmp/jfs
cd /tmp/good/backup
tar lcf - .|(cd /tmp/jfs; tar xpvf - )

Then cleanup /tmp/good/backup
Don't forget to edit your fstab

Disclaimer:
Please make a backup before you do this. I don't think that I missed anything, but in case I did, please be cautious and have another backup handy.

But how do I make mkfs.jfs with the 2004.2 PPC LiveCD?
Because it´s gone! Or can I simply use the 2004.1 PPC LiveCD?
And do i need to umerge reiserfsprogs to emerge jfsprogs?
I think not but i want to be safe as noob!

I don't have an answer to your questions regarding jfs.

And do i need to umerge reiserfsprogs to emerge jfsprogs?
I doubt it, but you could always try emerge -p jfsprogs to make sure.
