i managed to start up my rs6000 (44p-170) via the 2004.1 liveCD. since video output is somehow garbage with the livecd, i am accessing the box via serial console.
i got stage3 from http://dev.gentoo.org/~tgall/stage3-ppc64-20040717.tar.bz2 and now trying to compile my own kernel.
no matter which sources i try (may it gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.8rc2 or vanialla 188.8.131.52) i always end up at the posix-timers.o compile.
it takes forever and neve goes behind it. cc is running i see in top but it never seems to finish compiling the posix-timers.o. i tried for 5 hours but no luck. i also tried other config-files (also tgall´s ones) but still the same...
any idea what i can do to finally compile my own kernel on ibm rs 6000 44p-170 (400mhz, 1Gb ram, gxt4000p).
any help would be great !
UPDATE: this is solved. i started from scratch again and the kernel compile went fine this time.
now i just need a gfx card that is supported by linux on the 44p-170 (gxt 4000p isnt).
