Hello,

I have recently upgraded to kernel 2.6.8 and now I think that my TiBook gets much hotter than it used to. Maybe I am mistaken though. But even when I don't do anything, and it's just sitting there, the fans are on and the bottom side close to the screen is really hot. I can barely touch some spots and that I would have noticed before!

Hm, looking at it... is there air supposed to come out of the left slots? Maybe a fan is broken?

Do you have any difficulties with the new kernel??

Thanks heaps,
Jens

Hi.

I've had some problems with 2.6.8 (as in unstable applications, choking awk, etc.) on a Tibook rev III. It never got too hot, but as I was saying I did have some problems and I thus reverted to a 2.6.7 (current gentoo-dev-sources, gentoo-r14). Given that the new Powerbooks do need thermal control in the kernel it might be that 2.6.8 is the culprit. It is worth trying a 2.6.7 before digging deeper I think.

I'm having some kinds of problems with my Alu PowerBook 15" 1.5 GHz. I thought for a long time this was a thermal issue, but it actually turned out to come from faulty memory. Errors were nevertheless more frequent with higher temperatures, so I decided to rewrite a large part of the thermal system driver therm_adt746x.c. I'll post the modified file when the changes are ok and as-safe-as-possible to use...

Regards.

Well, I don't have any problems with applications crashing or anything like that. The problem was that the bottom of the laptop got noticebly hot, and I mean P4/3.4GHz-Laptop hot! It never was like that.

I switched back to the 2.6.7 kernel and want to see if that is doing anything at all. So far, it seems to be better....
