Any suggested make.conf for a RS/6000 pSeries Power3 64bit?
Thanks in advance.

Frapar, this is indeed an installation question, but I'm moving it from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on PPC because your chances to get a knowledgeable response are much better with the regulars in here... :)

Hi,
this is what I used on iSeries 64bit with RS64-IV (sstar) processor:

Code:
CFLAGS="-O3 -pipe -mcpu=power4 -mtune=power4 -fno-strict-aliasing -maltivec -mabi=altivec"
CHOST="powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
USE="ppc64"

But this is what I use on a pseries Power5

Code:

CFLAGS="-g -p -mcpu=power5 -mtune=power5 -mpowerpc64 -fexceptions"

now this is for testing and debugging purposes; hence the -g -p -fexceptions and no -O[n].

For Optimizations i'd advise agains -O3 and instead go with -O2.

For gcc-4.[0,1].[0,1,2] (LOL) I'd add -mpowerpc-gpopt -ftree-vectorize

And unless you are using a 970 or 970FX based system (JS20 blades, G5) you DO NOT have altivec. Sorry :( Double check in /proc/device-tree/cpus/ to see if it says
Code:

/proc/device-tree/cpus/PowerPC,970FX@1/ibm,vmx

Or if in /proc/cpuinfo it mentions altivec. The vmx is for Vector Multimedia eXtension; which is AltiVec (a trademark of Motorola)
