I was just wondering if anyone has installed Gentoo on a 17 inch flat panel iMac? Is there graphics support? I tried the liveCD, but not for very long...I have to convince my wife that it's for the best before proceding.

What I try before EVER installing any sort of Linux on a machine (but always gentoo :) ) is to boot to a Knoppix CD on it to see if it picks up all the hardware. That way I know 1) that all the hardware is all supported, and 2) if I can't set it up right after install, I can always boot the Knoppix CD back up and copy/examine the config settings it used to get the hardware to work ( /etc/X11/XF86Config for example)

From my experience, Knoppix can pick up pretty much anything that you can support under Linux

Just a suggestion.

Gentoo works great on my 15" imac, and probably will on your 17", im not sure what graphics chip is in the 17" but i'm 99.9% sure that you can do anything you want with it except flash and Acrobat.

What about programs like xpdf? I run gentoo on my iBook, and it works just fine. Does Adobe have a native linux version that I'm not aware of?
