Hi,
I am actually searching for a Virtual-PC program that does emulate a ppc-computer on a real ppc - so like VMWare does on windows or something like that.
The whole point is that i have a mac and want to play a bit with Gentoo/PPC while working in my macosx and also do not want to be able to destroy my system while doing that.
everybody is talking about emulators for x86 on a ppc or the other way around - i need something more simple :-)
okay, i found mac-on-linux but want something like linux-on-mac (except for that i dont find something like that )
any ideas would be great!!!
thanks

Hi,

Mac-on-Linux is currently getting ported to Mac OS X. This will be the most promising solution. Since the CPU is not emulated, it will run at full native speed provided that there is not too much IO (the hardware is emulated). The developer mailing list archives could be consulted to know the current status. I don't think it is yet usable.

The other options are qemu and PearPC. These emulate a PowerPC system. So there is a performance cost.

Have fun,

I recently joined the Mac on Linux mailing list, and some people have been saying that they've gotten the CVS version of MOL to boot linux. Right now, that's probably your best option if you want ppc-gentoo on within your OSX. On the other hand, if you just want gentoo period, I believe that Virtual PC can boot linux. VPC will be (is?) included in Microsoft Office 2004....though possibly only in the Pro version.
If you're a student, you can probably get it for arround $70.
