I'm having this problem for a week now:
newton root # emerge world -pv

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating world dependencies -
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy ">=virtual/jdk-1.4" have been masked.
!!! possible candidates are:
- dev-java/blackdown-jdk-1.4.1 (masked by: -keyword)
- dev-java/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2_rc1 (masked by: -* keyword)
- dev-java/blackdown-jdk-1.4.2_rc1-r1 (masked by: -* keyword)
!!! (dependency required by "dev-java/ant-core-1.6.2" [ebuild])

!!! Problem with ebuild dev-java/junit-3.8.1-r1
!!! Possibly a DEPEND/*DEPEND problem.

!!! Depgraph creation failed.

I've done rsyncs, emerge regen...
I've looked for such virtual.. and I can't find it in the profiles dir...

also, the possible candidates are WRONG since the ibm-jdk-bin should be there also.. (and would satisfy the ant-core dependency..)

newton root # emerge info

I had this problem some time ago.

I solved it by removing blackdown from the virtuals file.

/var/cache/edb/virtuals

Note: I read somewhere that the virtuals file is (or will become) deprecated and virtuals will be computed on the fly. So it might not be the ideal solution.
