I was starting to get sick of my spaceball (laptop) so i was just about to try out my usb-mouse and i didn't have anything related to usb in the kernel so i was prepared to reconfigure it and go on with the usual reboot-crap but i was busy at the moment so while i was "busy" i just plugged it in and moved it around a bit and i was like "what the f**k just happened?!" :)

I double checked the kernel so i didn't have anything usb related in it.
Checked my logs for anything about usb.
And i found nothing at all.

It just worked! My spaceball worked at the same time and i could plug the usb-mouse in and out with no problem at all! I hope you'll encounter that feeling if you try it out..

I got the latest version of xorg installed btw.

It is possible that your BIOS has "USB keyboard/mouse emulation", or something of that sort, enabled. Most recent systems have an option like this that makes a USB keyboard and/or mouse appear like a PS/2 devices to the system, for use with an OS (like Win95) that has no USB support.

While this might work, the real kernel USB support is a lot better, and can usually handle some of the more interesting features on current mice.
