PowerMac G5 7,3
DP 1.8Ghz
1GB RAM
ATi 9800XT

I am looking to install the 32Bit version of Gentoo and had a quick couple of questions.

would anyone recommand that I buy more ram? or is 1GB enough?

Will Thermal Support Work With This PMG5?
Estimate how fast bootstrap will be?
Is gnome working well?

Bascially I am looking to install gentoo for these reasons.
1. completely optimized OS for my dual 64 bit arch
2. to have a wonderfully integrated java developing environment

I don't see why 1GB would be too little.

I rarely use > 100MB of my ram, with a somewhat lightweight gui and several apps.

Java support for Linux/ppc sucks. Honestly, the VMs for linux ppc are far from working OK, not even a browser plugin works.
(Well, java always sucks, but that's a different matter)

Have fun*

Should be good. I have only 256MB which is enough most of the time.

I use WindowMaker but I wouldn't see why Gnome would not work well. Usually there is not much problem on ppc with user application.

64-bit or 32-bit? You should installed Gentoo PowerPC64 for a 64-bit environment.
