I found a way to make torsmo check for new mail from a pop3 account and show the number of mails in the server along with the subjects. It's by no means perfect or elegant since it checks the account twice (once for the number of mails, another for the subjects), but it's nice because it doesn't need to have the mails downloaded to any folder and it doesn't do anything to the mails (fetch them, delete them, or anything else). Once you see there are messages you want to read, you can launch thunderbird or whatever and download them - just remember torsmo will keep showing them there until you delete them from the server.

First you need to get pop3check.

Then, edit ~/.torsmorc so that torsmo shows the mail checked by pop3check. Add a line like this (mine only shows message subjects, you might want senders, etc.):

Code:
${color grey}Mail:$color${execi 60 /home/scripts/pop3check | cut -f4 -d: | cut -f1 -dm}${execi 60 /home/scripts/pop3check -H | grep Subject | cut -f2- -d:}

That way, every 60 seconds torsmo will check your account and show the info on the root window. Of course, I haven't tried this with more than one account (I don't think it would work without tweaking). The output in torsmo is something like this:
Code:
Mail: 3

If anyone knows how to make this more efficient please post!

Hi,

I keep getting this error.

Error reading command line options

I made a config file for pop3check in home as .pop3check but nothing is working.
