i am getting the 12" model with a 1.25 gigs of ram and a 60gig hd.

I am planning on dual booting using gentoo :)

Questions i have?

1. How many of you have gentoo installed on there powerbook?

2.Was it a pretty straight forward installation? did you have any problems with hardware?

3.What things do i need to make sure i install? Like to get my wireless to work and so on?

3.What kernel did you pick and why?

With this model powerbook, sleep, X Accel and WiFi (Airport Extreme) are all unsupported. Since I don't actually have one of these, I'll let someone else answer your other questions. :)

That's the only one you can get without quite a bit of searching. Partway through the instalation you'll update portage and can later update everything else you want, so that should work anyways.

should i go for the 15inch?

The reason i am asking this is because the 15 inch has the radeon videocard, and i hear that they do not have good drivers for linux.

you should probably just read the guide at the top of this forum.
there's also the gentoo handbook to guide you, which walks you through the whole process.

On the contrary, many Radeon boards are supported by the in-kernel modules (and I guess that the newer one will become supported as well), whereas Nvidia is never fully supported by those. Good drivers for Nvidia means proprietary drivers running on x86 only, so you cannot use then on PPC. I will in fact never get anything with Nvidia in it simply because they do not support my main Linux platform (PPC). No matter your opinions, Radeon in much better supported than Nvidia under Linux on PPC.

You will likely not be able to run commercial/closed source games, unless there is also a ppc binary for them.

My AluBook has a Radeon 9600, which doesn't work _yet_ ... as it's PPC, ati-drivers are likely to never work, lest they release ppc versions too, but the open source reverse engineering efforts are coming along nicely (nice when reverse engineering does that ... ;-)), and some functionality is already in DRI CVS.

honestly, on ppc, i'd go for the radeon chipset, as depending on the model, it either works or is somewhwat likely to work in the near future.
