I've been on a year-long crusade to get DRI / DRM / GLX running on my G3/333 with an onboard 6MB ATi Rage PRO chipset. Whenever I tried to build the DRI from their cvs servers, the module failed to be created. When I use the Gentoo ebuilds, I get this error:

(blah blah, downloading etc...)

* Applying various patches (bugfixes/updates)...
* 001_ppc_drm-ioremap-agp.patch...

* Failed Patch: 001_ppc_drm-ioremap-agp.patch!
*
* Include in your bugreport the contents of:
*
* /var/tmp/portage/xfree-drm-4.3.0-r7/temp/001_ppc_drm-ioremap-agp.patch-17214.out

!!! ERROR: x11-base/xfree-drm-4.3.0-r7 failed.
!!! Function epatch, Line 322, Exitcode 0
!!! Failed Patch: 001_ppc_drm-ioremap-agp.patch!

(end of mini-failure)

I was reading the Gentoo DRI how-to, and it's talking about AGP chipsets.

# emerge pciutils; lspci | grep AGP
# 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corp. 440BX/ZX/DX - 82443BX/ZX/DX AGP bridge (rev 03)
// Your output may not match the above due to different hardware.

The ebuild fails on an AGP remapping patch, the Gentoo How-To mentions probing my AGP bus, and I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to have AGP GART compiled into my kernel.

The problem I'm seeing is that my G3 doesn't have any AGP hardware in it, and the Mach64 based chiset has "Rage PRO PCI" written across it's face on my motherboard.

Does anyone know if the DRI can be built for less-than-cool PCI chipsets like mine?

As far as I know, to get PCI cards work you just need to add following in the "Device" section of your xorg.conf:

Code:
Option "ForcePCIMode" "True"

I also have mach64 based video card and I finally got drm drivers copiling against 2.6 kernel using this guide. :)

I've had bad luck with their instructions / my poopy computer / my mistakes / typos...

Can't hurt to try again...

Assuming it compiles, I had no modules to show for it. It would usually error-out on some library file, arbparse.c and about six others come into mind. They didn't appear to be in the cvs trees I had downloaded, and the manual-insertions I made worked until the next file was missing.

It still says:
Code:
bash-2.05b$ glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: No
:oops:

Still after installing Mesa, X feels much faster than before. :)
