hi!

i got a iBook G3, and im thinking of buying a extern dvd-burner using usb 2.0
is there any problem with this ?k3b runs fine now.. do i need a dvd-burner to be able to install dvdrtools ? becasue for now cdrtools is Blocking it..

I believe that dvdrtools supersede cdrtools, so no matter what hardware you have you will need to unmerge cdrtools and install dvdrtools.

Are you sure that the iBook G3 has a USB 2.0 interface? I was totally convinced that the thing is on 1.1...

ah. hum i must check hee..

two 12mbit usb ports and one 400mbit firewire port.


hum is any problem with running the firewire port ?

I have never used a Firewire burner, but I do use a Firewire hard disk under Linux all the time, plus I have heard now and then successes with this kind of burners, so you should have no significant problems as far as I know. (USB 1.1 on the other hand is of course too slow to burtn DVDs.)

i unmerged cdrtools and installed dvdrtools

and i get this at startup:

i must choose to have cdrtools or dvdrtools.. cant have them at the same time -_-

dvdrtools includes cdrtools packages ?

There should be a commandline switch or perhaps a configuration option in k3b which you can set so it ignores the version of [cd|dvd]record.

fwiw, xcdroast has the -n option, so I expect k3b will have something similar...

but.. is there a way to update the "dvdrtools" version of cdrecord ? the cdrecord version for now is 1.11a15.. and its TOOO old hee
