Hello,

I'm looking to reduce a bottleneck in my system by replacing my hard disk with something a bit faster. So I've started looking around a bit at RAID controllers, but I'm having difficulty finding information about wheter any of these boards work in linux with ppc. I have a G4 (Sawtooth).

Does anyone have any suggestions? I found this page that talks about SATA RAID in linux (I'm not stuck on any particular implementation, but SCSI is a bit pricey for me), but it doesn't say much about cards for Apple boxes. I'd like to go with hardware RAID, if possible.

Do any of you have a hardware RAID set up on an Apple machine? What are you using?

Thanks!

P.S. I'd like to avoid fakeraid cards, for obvious reasons.

Take a look at Adaptec's offerings - a decent portion of their line used to be mac-compatible, I'm not sure about their new stuff, though.

One would assume the primary concern would be the linux drivers anyway...

the only SATA RAID controller that seems to be supporter by linux is the 3ware 9xxx SATA-RAID. http://www.3ware.com/products/serial_ata9000.asp

Aha, I finally found some answers... Yellow Dog supported hardware. It says that all of ATTO's current cards are supported. What is meant by "current" I am not really sure... But my guess is that I could start digging in YellowDog's lists to find some answers.

It also looks as if Adaptec is supporting a number of their cards in Linux. Whether that means that the PowerDomain cards for Mac work, I'm not so sure-- I'm having a hard time finding out what the chipsets are for these cards. Take the Adaptec PowerDomain 29160 for example.

Anyhow, it's a start.
