I have the latest install of Gentoo finally done on this machine and running the 2.6.9 kernel. X is up and running but my colors are all wrong.

It comes up with a distinct red cast to everything.

The monitor is an old PC CTX 1765GMe I had and runs via an adaptor. It displays good color on the mac side.

The X log indicates initially an RGB weight of 888, though I changed it to the typical PC weight of 565 with no noticeable difference. The gamma is 1 1 1 and I can make a difference and get the whites and blues right by using a gamma of 1 3 2, but then greens are yellow.

So the question becomes one of how do I set the colors up so that everything is right? Is there a program to install that will help do that?

By the way, the old Mac seems to fly in X compared to OS 9.1.

I figured it out. I had to set the depth to 15 and the colors are normal, I figured it out because 8 was fine.

I wonder if when I get some more vram if I can then use higher depths that will be nicer?

Looks good now.
