Installed Gentoo on my 1Ghz 12" iBook. It mostly went smooth, with some exceptions for xorg.conf wich needed some fiddling to start, but as they say in the song you get by with a little help from your friends (i.e. forum & google)
Anyway I wanted to share a success that has been reported a problem on at least a couple of sites, and that is the use of external screens. Apple, in all their marketing wisdom, has mauled the ibook with a firmware downgrade that only will allow a user to mirror external screens, not use different externals as on the iBook. Luckily there exists a couple of work arounds that unlocks this and lets you run different externals from iBook under OS X. I installed it and then started the gentoo ride.
After finding a xorg.conf for two screens the machine is able to start with two different displays, and the mouse can move between the two. Everything is crisp, but colours are a bit "sick", more yellowish and brown. So if anyone has any hints on how to liven up the colours I would be very happy.
All the best
