Did you do:

Code:
make all && make modules_install
cp vmlinux /boot && cp System.map /boot

Try to see if in /etc/yaboot.conf in image line you have:
Code:

image=/boot/vmliux

So i compiled my Kernel once again, and it simply won't boot :( It hangs on the Open Firmware screen claiming that i should type mac-boot command to go further. I can't do anything :( I can sucessfully boot from the copied livecd Kernel in Yaboot, but I need other modules set so i want my locally compiled Kernel to boot

Yaboot.config is not the problem, the problem is my compiled kernel.
Are there some kind of special PPC settings which i maybe forgot?

yeah, in building a ppc kernel, your highest success rate will come only when you read every single option. you MUST go through it carefully. Take care to remove the many things that are for IBM machines only. Like all the ide controllers and busses and 8250 serial ports etc. That will probably help with the size issue as well

by specifying the exact ebuild you want
look here for example

/usr/portage/sys-kernel
19:20 : cd hardened-sources/
19:21 : ls
ChangeLog Manifest files hardened-sources-2.4.26-r3.ebuild metadata.xml
19:21 :

you would type emerge ./hardened-sources[tab]

theres lots in the /usr/portage/sys-kernel directory

Actually with portage 2.0.51+ this isn't really supported any longer. Your best bet if you don't want to use an older version of something in portage is to use /etc/portage (man portage for details) to mask all of the newer ebuilds. The above syntax is broken and doesn't reliably work.

As for your other problem, the only thing I can think of is that you've modified your architecture type to an incorrect one. If you could post your kernel config (not paste if possible), I'd be happy to take a look.

Good luck :)

If you have a g4 you want to set the machine type to (6xx,7xx) etc NOT POWER3,4 as these are the G5's

.. to compile and sucessfully boot the 2.6.7 kernel ftped sources from www.kernel.org, everything looks good, but i don't have an eth0 device now (wtf?) :)) damn, what did i set wrong? the getnoo-dev-sources 2.6.9-r1 won't even compile on my machine

Good ol' blue G4 with Matsushita CD burner

I need it as an appletalk server (netatalk) and i need a appletalk support compiled in the kernel, thats way i try to compile the kernel myself. and for now i managed it, but i don't have the eth0 interface :) im a newb .. i think that I unexpected switched something off ...
