There are some threads discussing using an iPod under Gentoo. What are you guys doing with the iPod under Gentoo? Using ist as hard drive? I'd be interested to use it the way I am using it under OS X: storing mp3's on it, creating playlists. BUT - how can I do that under Gentoo? Is there something that could take the place of iTunes? It'd be ok to just have a script.

I am just using my iPod as a hard drive. From my experience there is no easy way to emulate the functionality like that of OSX aside from utilization of scripts to shuttle data back and forth from local disk to iPod.

I have heard rumors of iTunes running under x86 with wine, but nothing under PPC.

I must say that gtkpod works great. My iPod took less time to setup under linux than under windows.

Yes, I use UDEV. But the iPod (20GB "normal") connects through USB. Here's the relevent line in my "/etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules" file:
Code:
BUS=="scsi", SYSFS{model}=="iPod            ", SYSFS{vendor}=="Apple   ", KERNEL="sd?2", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="ipod"

gtkpod automatically mounts the iPod, so no need to worry about that :)
