Hi,
I just tried to install 2004.3 ppc version on my Tibook 1 GHz, every thing is fine until I configured the kernel. I am using Gentoo-dev-sources which is 2.6.9-r1, and after make all && make modules_install it showed "mm/built-in.o(.rodata.cst4+0x4): relocation truncated to fit: R_PPC_ADDR32 empty_zero_page+40000000"
and "make:*** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error1"

I have successfully compiled 2.6.9-r1 kernel for x86 several times, the only thing that I am not sure in configuring the PPC kernel is what is the Machine Type for Tibook. I just choose "CHRP/PowerMac/PReP". Is that a correct choice?

Any suggestion is welcome.

I don't think that is correct. Have you checked PPCConfDB?

http://ppcconfdb.sourceforge.net/

It helped me get Gentoo running on my 500MHz iBook G3. :)

Hi, Minicom
I just checked the ppcconfdb, it seems that "PowerMac/PReP" is the suitable machine type for Tibook.

Hmm, now I don't know what's wrong with my kernel config. Installing gentoo on ppc is much painful than on x86, that's what I am feeling. I used to installing gentoo 5,6 times on x86. all success while for PPC already tried twice, both failure. :(

Agreed. It is most definitely more of a challenge, but I think it's worth it.

Have you tried one of the default configs? They can be found in:

/usr/src/linux/arch/ppc/configs

http://stimuli.ca/linux/files/.config-2.6 works for me, and I am running 2.6.9-something, on a TiBook 867mhz.

Thanks, I will take a look of your configuration and try later.
