My muscle memory is just too good, the switch between OS X and Linux (which I do a lot) is confusing my fingers into using the wrong keys.

Is there a really easy way to remap Command to Ctrl in Linux? I was hoping that Gnome would have an option for it, but I couldn't find anything point-n-click.

Anyone else do this?

/etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier  "Keyboard0"
        Driver      "kbd"
        Option      "XkbOptions"    "ctrl:swapcaps" #      <---- this option here !!!
EndSection

keep in mind this only works in x; there is a way to get it to work in the console but i dont know it

I think setting KEYMAP to emacs in /etc/rc.conf does this.

Maybe I'm not understanding you correctly, but I'm trying to find a way to exchange the command ("apple", or "open apple" if you're really old-school...) key with the control keys.

ie X usually maps the command keys to "Hyper", and control is control_L, etc.

I would like to exchange these two, but I can't figure out a way to do it. I've explored the Xkboptions available (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/kxb/rules/) and can't find something suitable.

I tried the suggestions in this thread, but they aren't doing what I want them to do. I'm not looking to modify the Caps Lock key at all.

I'm sure that this swap is possible by making a custom keymap -- but I'm really looking to avoid that if at all possible...
