I have been unable to get my canon S750 to print from my Tibook 867mhz. I read the Gentoo print guide, did all the steps but no luck. Cups setup gives me the error "Printer not connected; will retry in 30 seconds" when I tried to test print. I get this with dmesg | tail

Code:
  dmesg | tail
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 5
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed
ohci_hcd 0001:10:18.0: wakeup
usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 6
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 6 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x106D
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, address 6
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed
ohci_hcd 0001:10:19.0: wakeup
usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using address 2
drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 2 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x106D

I have kernel 2.6.9-r3 with usb options in the kernel not in modules.

If I
Code:
 cat test.txt > /dev/usb/lp0
the printer will start "setting up" to print but will stop after about 2 min without printing anything! I would love to get it to print so I don't have to reboot into another OS just to print. Help please, thanks.

heavyt,

You probably have a Winprinter. It needs the host to rasterise the page for it and sent it a bitmap, not a character stream.
Leave out the test and continue setting up. The test is doomed to fail with such a printer.

Well I tried to print without the test-run but it did not print.

heavyt,

Go into the CUPS setup and check it, particularly the URI. Foomatic does't always set things up right.

Cups has never had any printers set up when I open it, I have to set it up. The only thing that is preset is the URI , at "Device URI: usb://Canon/S750" and it does not work (even if it did get the name of the printer right). Example
Code:

 Description: canon-S750
Location: /dev/usb/lp0
Printer State: processing, accepting jobs.
"Media tray empty!"
Device URI: usb://Canon/S750

heavyt,

What driver are you using?
Code:
grep S750 /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/*
draws a blank and dropping the S off S750 only lists non Cannon drivers..

  Description: Canon BJC-8200
  Location:

Sorry the name of my printer is Canon S750 but there areno drivers for it. I have to use a driver for Canon BJC-8200 or Canon S630 which I download from www.linuxprinting.org.

For some unknown reason cups has labeled my usb-1 as //Canon/S750 and I can't seem to change it. But if I use Webmin to setup my printer it does not have that label for usb-1 (as you can see from above), but it still gives errors like the one above.
