doing a
emerge-webrsync
(because I'm behind a firewall)
I got
>>> Updating Portage cache:

--- 'profiles/arch.list' is empty or not available. Empty portage tree?
/usr/lib/portage/bin/ebuild.sh: line 1336: /usr/portage/eclass/flag-o-matic.eclass: No such file or directory

!!! ERROR: sys-apps/portage-2.0.51-r2 failed.
!!! Function inherit, Line 1337, Exitcode 1
!!! died sourcing /usr/portage/eclass/flag-o-matic.eclass in inherit()
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, NOT this status message.

well...

emerge -p world
--- 'profiles/arch.list' is empty or not available. Empty portage tree?

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

!!! ARCH is not set... Are you missing the /etc/make.profile symlink?
!!! Is the symlink correct? Is your portage tree complete?

Ah, yea !

going into
/usr/portage/profiles
and I got

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 default-darwin
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 default-linux
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 default-sparc-1.4
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 default-sparc-2004.0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 default-sparc64-1.4
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 default-sparc64-2004.0
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 embedded
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 hardened
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23305 Dec 7 03:40 package.mask
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 859 Dec 6 21:39 profiles.desc
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 uclibc
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Dec 9 11:01 updates
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 18434 Dec 8 01:42 use.desc
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 53013 Dec 7 18:39 use.local.desc

hm, OK,
cd default-linux
ls
and I got
alpha amd64 arm hppa sparc

Hey !? where is the ppc ?

Do I miss something ?

normaly, /etc/make.profile should point (ln -s ...) to /usr/portage/profiles/default-ppc-2004.3

I hope a new emerge-webrsync will resolve it and bring back the ppc...

cheers,
frank

You'll probably want to use a portage snapshot. If you have the universal livecd, get it off there and follow the directions in the handbook. If you need a snapshot, try your favorite mirror and go to the snapshots directory, (here's OSU OSL's http://gentoo.osuosl.org/snapshots/)

Hope this fixes it for you. :)

the actual snapshot also doesn't include profiles for ppc or ppc64.
so ppc and ppc64 are actualy gone ?
where they are gone ?

cheers
