I have always really liked Apple fonts, and the Mac system font Chicago always seemed especially cool.

If you have a Mac, (yes I really have 2 Mac II ROM chips sitting here in my desk drawer which I cut off the motherboard with a dremel tool) or if you search around the web a bit, you might be able to find a Chicago TTF file. You can copy it into your ~/.fonts directory and then using the Gnome menu, go to Applications -> Desktop Preferences -> Fonts. I have the top three set to "Chicago" and it looks really sweet.

The Chicago font will really add some serious eye candy to your Gnome desktop. This font is a bit too artistic for modern conservative commercial operating systems, but it really is a wonderful font for dialog boxes, menu lists, icon text, etc.

Another option might be to purchase the legendary Espy font which Apple had developed and then cancelled to the dissapointment of many of their users. It is available for purchase for a pretty reasonable price online from its creator.

I also like Chicago font a lot. I used it when I was younger, to skin my Windows98 to look as a Mac :) It's time to use it in Gentoo

The GTk theme isn't really a Mac one, but it looks nice enough; it's called Metal and it's from the gnome-themes-extra package in portage I believe. For the Metacity title bar I'm using a theme called collina and the firefox theme is Whitehart

Enjoy

And if anyone finds a true Mac GTK2 theme be sure to let us know, I found some GTK1 themes but they are pretty glitchy.

this is cool, but there is no bold setting in chicago. so on an application like GAIM when mousing over a user's screenname, all of their stats just blend together, because gaim distinguishes the stat name from the contents via bold text. This happens with most of the applications. It doesn't work too well as an application font for some programs. Best to use it as a window font or desktop font. Wonder if there's another chicago lookalike with bold and regular settings?
