Hi everybody,

i´m new to ppc but not to linux. I´ve installed gentoo, all seems right, yaboot, etc... on my powerbook G4

The problem is that when i boot the new system, it fails trying to mount root filesystem (on /dev/hda6). This happen just when "Cheking root filesystem".

It says that something is wrong and im able to prompt with root password or Ctrl-D for normal startup (which reboots the machine). The extrange thing is that if i login, on /dev appears really few devices, and /dev/hdX does not exist.

What can i do? Please help

Thanks a lot,
regards

OK, SOLVED,

really stupid. defsd was not installed... simply installing the problem disspeared.

This is popping up over and over again, it must be an issue with the stages and/or the bootstrap script, or might be a feature (people have access to devfsd and udev so they get to choose). In any case, you need to emerge a device management daemon (devfsd or udev, though I believe that even the most recent release is still devfsd based) and you should be in business.
