I found a couple of old, unanswered posts asking for some idea for how to monitor SCSI devices. Both had tried to find an answer by Googling around before posting, so it's not like they hadn't tried to find an answer on their own before asking for help.

I did the same thing (maybe using more generic search criteria?) and was able to find two SCSI monitoring tools that are listed as supported by Gentoo that might be useful for people. They are sg3_utils and smartmontools. Of the two, I think that smartmontools is probably closer to what people will want, as it includes a daemon to do background monitoring.

I answered both old posts, so hopefully the original questioners will get the information that they were looking for (albeit several months late). In the meantime, could this tip be added to the appropriate HOWTO?

TIA
