If you are able to boot with the PPC32 install-CD you can use that kernel to configure yours:
Code:
#zcat /proc/config.gz > \
/mounted_gentoo_partition/usr/src/linux-2.6.whatever/.config

Then chrooted in your gentoo partition:
Code:
# cd /usr/src/linux-2.6.whatever

The following makes sure that the config file is in the proper format and will it ask to configure new options:
Code:
# make oldconfig

And finally:
Code:
# make -j3 && make modules_install && cp System.map /boot \
&& cp vmlinux /boot/vmlinux-2.6.whatever

Don''t forget to edit /etc/yaboot.config for your new kernel and to run:
Code:
# ybin -v

Wouter ;-)
