my radeon framebuffer seems not working properly on
Code:
sys-kernel/gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r4

I have xorg version
Code:
x11-base/xorg-x11-6.7.0-r3

From my .config file:
Code:
grep -i radeon .config
# CONFIG_FB_RADEON_OLD is not set
CONFIG_FB_RADEON=y
CONFIG_FB_RADEON_I2C=y
# CONFIG_FB_RADEON_DEBUG is not set

Code:

Section "Device"
  BoardName    "Unknown"
#  BusID        "240:16:0"
  #Driver       "nv"
  Driver       "ati"
  Identifier   "Device[0]"
  Option       "dpms"
  Option       "UseFBDev"
  #Option        "FlatPanel"
  #Option "CrtcNumber" "0"
  #Option "CrtcNumber" "1"
  #Option       "NvAGP" "1"
  #Option  "MonitorLayout" "TMDS, TMDS"
  Screen       0
  VendorName   "Unknown"
EndSection

By broken I mean seems to be flashing in X and in console there
seems to be white specs. Does anybody else have the same problem ? This problem does remind me of when I forgot to put " Option "UseFBDev" in my xorg but it's clearly there.

BTW gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r1 work OK and I have a radeon 9600 pro.

Does you monitor display anything or is it blank all the way after the bootloader? Can you start X at all? How about using this option too?

Code:
Option     "fbdev" "/dev/fb0"

Can you post the warning/error message from /var/log/Xorg.0.log as well so we can have a better understanding of your problem?

Yes the monitor does display OK in console and in X (infact writing this reply from within KDE (i.e X). However, I a get the screen flashing in different parts (X) and in console I can see the text OK but I get white specs flashing.
The option "fbdev" "/dev/fb0" does not help.

As regards to /var/log/Xorg.0.log (the relevant bits, I hope):
Code:

So there appears no warning/error with the loading of the radeon framebuffer.

Are you using PCI Card? It said that it cannot find the video bios. Maybe this is the problem. You can try to specify the pci bus and slot in xorg.conf and see if the warning would disappear. On the other hand, have you try other resolution, color depth, or not running X at all? Would your screen flash even when you don't have X running?

I have a powermac g5 dual 1.8 with radeon 9600 pro on AGP. Even without X (i.e kdm disabled) I get the flashing white specs. I have cinema 23" Apple LCD. I always (only) run it at 1900x1200 and I don't have the modelines for lower resolutions.

I get these in Xorg.0.log even when things go OK with kernels "gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.9-r4 and gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.7-r11.
