Hi,

Just got gentoo going on my new ibook but am having trouble getting started installing/using a battery monitor utility. Im considering both torsmo and bbacpi but am out of my element when it comes to acpi stuff. I would appreciate any help getting a battery monitor going. What do I need in my kernel / config files for the utility etc, etc.

The power management module (PMU) is different from the x86 world. If compiled with the respective option set, the kernel does offer APM emulation but as far as I know no ACPI layer. Look into an application that understands APM instead, it could be that the applications you mention do not do so.

I am personally pretty happy with gkrellm2 which looks similar to torsmo and works well. I am not sure about torsmo, but I am pretty positive that bbacpi will not work on Apple hardware.

On my Pb with pmu enabled i found the battery states in /proc/pmu/battery_0

Then i wrote a little script to get the percentage and display it in torsmo. for me it works pretty well.
