what can i do to fix this????

You could start by telling people what kernel version gives that error, perhaps? Also append the output of

emerge --info --verbose

I had this same error. I was able to narrow this error down to the High Memory Support option in the kernel config (turn it off). This is actually very interesting because mac osx can see my full 1.25 GB of memory but Gentoo can only see 786 MB. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
