i'm an canadian expat in de nederlands and in the process of learning dutch. i have some dutch - english or english - dutch books but i'm looking for a dutch dictionary like the gnome-dictionary that is installed automatically with gnome. i want something that i can look up a word and it returns the definition in dutch too along with any deviants of the word (ie plural or feminine)

anyone have any suggestions?

Ik denk niet dat er gratis offline woordenboeken beschikbaar zijn (zeker niet voor linux) maar hier is een online woordenboek:
http://www.vandale.nl/opzoeken/woordenboek/

(don't thinbk there is a free offline dictionary (especially not for linux) but the link is for an online dictionary,

Might help, but I think you'd need a basic understanding of dutch for it. Magic-dic might be what you're looking for:

http://magic-dic.homeunix.net/

It's not in portage, AFAIK, so you'll have to install it manually

You might check out gnuvd.

I tried it briefly today, but it did not work for me though.
(there's an ebuild in bugzilla).

For gnome, make sure you have these installed to have support for the Dutch dictionary:

app-text/gnome-spell
app-text/aspell
app-dicts/aspell-nl

Don't forget to delete ~/.gconf/GNOME/Spell/%gconf.xml after you have added an app-dicts/aspell-XX package.

Further more, check out these programs: http://jodrell.net/projects/translator http://home.arcor.de/gkiwi/gnome-ding.html

Didn't find any other interesting programs for you on gnomefiles.org

En hoe groot acht je de kans dat hij doorziet dat dat sarcasme was, als autochtone Nederlanders (nou ja, in ieder geval deze dus) dat al niet zien?
Helaas heeft mijn beeldscherm nog geen geintegreerde tonatie-generator om teksten die op het scherm getoond worden van de bijbehorende emotionele kleur te voorzien. En mijn wetware heeft onvoldoende resolutie om die informatie in de ruis te onderscheiden. ymmv though

Naja, alsof `aarsgat' zo vriendelijk is!

Bovendien is het woord een anglicisme, wat de vrager dus aboluut niet verder gaat helpen met z'n Nederlands!

Misschien is het gebruik van de '' een hint?

En laten we het gebruik van het dezer dagen enigszins beladen
woord 'autochtoon' nou maar niet gebruiken. Voor je het weet
hebben we een compleet andere discussie!

Tja. Tijd voor een upgrade, dan maar?
