I've just tried to intall ppc 2004.3 on a dual-processor G4 (450 MHz). Things went more or less smoothly until the reboot after configuring yaboot. Yaboot seems to work. It presents a menu of options. If I select either x for OS X or c for cdrom from the menu, they boot just fine. If I select l for linux, OS X boots immediately without any indication that an error has occurred. If I set defaultos to linux, run ybin, reboot again and wait for the timeout, Mac OS X boots without any sign of error. I know that ybin has been successful because I also change the time out, and yaboot behaves appropriately.

I believe that I've configured yaboot correclty.
Code:
boot=/dev/hda2
device=hd:
partition=4
delay=15
install=/usr/lib/yaboot/yaboot
magicboot=/usr/lib/yaboot/ofboot
defaultos=linux
image=/boot/kernel-2.6.10-r6
    label=Linux
    root=/dev/hda4
    partition=4
    sysmap=/boot/System.map-2.6.10-r6
    read-only
macosx=/dev/hda6
enablecdboot
enableofboot

I've checked the name of the kernel image, and it matches the file in /boot.
Running file on ther kernel returns.

Code:
/boot/kernel-2.6.10-r6: ELF 32-bit MSB executable, PowerPC or cisco 4500, version 1 (SYSV), statically linked, not stripped

The kernel is gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.10-r6 - the kernel sources that were installed by "emerge system". (Note that to get beyond the bootstrap, I had to set ACCEPT_KEYWORDS to "~ppc" to get by a problem with libstdc+.)

Processor type -> 6xx/7xx/...
I don't know which other kernel config options might cause a kernel to be unrecognizable as such.

Any idea of what's wrong?

Thanks,

Pypa

After the first yaboot setup you have to run mkofboot -v, what you probably did. Maybe it's your /etc/fstab ?
