hi, as mentioned in the subject, i've been setting HZ of my 2.6 kernels to 100 because the value of 1000 comes with a severe (for my old hardware - G3 400 and 500) performance penalty (around 10% drop for basically all processor intensive tasks like big calculations in octave). All IS working well, i just wondered whether it is a safe practice. Would it be safe to set it to something else, like 200 or are there still some subsystems that rely on some specific value of HZ?

greetings, seneka.

You shouldn't have any problems with 100 HZ. Don't worry about anything unless you see strange problems. I have used a 100 HZ ppc kernel for a while on my system with no ill effects.
