Hi all,

Here's the output from my cat /proc/cpuinfo:
Code:

processor       : 0
cpu             : 7447A, altivec supported
clock           : 1499MHz
revision        : 1.1 (pvr 8003 0101)
bogomips        : 1495.04
machine         : PowerBook5,4
motherboard     : PowerBook5,4 MacRISC3 Power Macintosh
detected as     : 287 (PowerBook G4 15")
pmac flags      : 0000000a
L2 cache        : 512K unified
memory          : 512MB
pmac-generation : NewWorld

At the light of the BogoMIPS mini-Howto, I found that my BogoMips level is a little bit low comparing to other CPU. I know BogoMIPS are not very relevant performance indicator but I don't find my PowerPC 1.5Ghz very "boosty"... Mac users seems to say that this CPU is equivalent to a Pentium-4 3Ghz, I think it's foolish. Moreover my CPU is very often at high-speed (listening to the fans) under Linux, a lot's more than in MacOS X (very silent  )

If somebody has relevant informations on real PowerPC performance level, (s)he's welcome.

Thanks,

Best Regards,

Bruno.

1495 bogomips?
Perhaps there's something wrong with my 1.25GHz Alubook G4 15"?
Shouldn't I be getting ~1249 bogomips?

cat /proc/cpuinfo

Code:
processor       : 0
cpu             : 7447/7457, altivec supported
clock           : 1249MHz
revision        : 1.1 (pvr 8002 0101)
bogomips        : 831.58
machine         : PowerBook5,2
motherboard     : PowerBook5,2 MacRISC3 Power Macintosh
detected as     : 287 (PowerBook G4 15")
pmac flags      : 0000001b
L2 cache        : 512K unified
memory          : 512MB

I think this value is not very accurate and change with kernel version... Try another and check the value again... For me, it has been new = 2*old (between 2.6.7 & 2.6.10)

Well... my trusty old Beige G3/300 AV which has been overclocked to a storming great 400mhz shows the following:
Code:

beaker root # cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor       : 0
cpu             : 740/750
temperature     : 42-44 C (uncalibrated)
clock           : 400MHz
revision        : 2.2 (pvr 0008 0202)
bogomips        : 798.72
machine         : Power Macintosh
motherboard     : AAPL,PowerMac G3 MacRISC
detected as     : 49 (PowerMac G3 (Silk))
pmac flags      : 00000000
L2 cache        : 1024K unified pipelined-syncro-burst
memory          : 640MB
pmac-generation : OldWorld

I think the main thing to remember here is that the Bogo in BogoMips comes from the word "Bogus", you really should read the description given at: http://www.joeldalley.com/linux/HOWTO/howto_pages/BogoMips.html

Basically if other 1.5ghz G4's are significantly more than 1495 BogoMips I'd be worried, if not, all is fine :)

Gnomeza, I get exactly the same bogomips as you, on the same laptop.
Are we both ok ? Are we both wrong ?
