ok, i really need some enlightment here from any linux wizzard please, i'm following the 2004.3 LiveCD for PPC Installation Guide and @ the 7th section "Configuring the kernel", there are these steps that i don't understand and are givin' me a "no such file or directory" message.

in order to change the symlink, one has to delete /usr/src/linux:

Code:
Code Listing 4: Changing the kernel source symlink

# rm /usr/src/linux
# cd /usr/src
# ln -s linux-2.6.9 linux

and on the next step, the documentations prompts the user to go to the directory s/he just removed ?!?

Code:
Code Listing 5: Invoking menuconfig

# cd /usr/src/linux
# make menuconfig

The trick is here:

# ln -s linux-2.6.9 linux

"linux-2.6.9" is a directory and the "ln" command creates a symbolic link of "linux-2.6.9" and names that link "linux". In practice, there's a new directory, named "linux", that points to "linux-2.6.9".

Hope that wasn't too confusing.

You want to replace the "linux-2.6.9" with whatever "linux-2.6.blah" is in the /usr/src directory. Do it again, starting from the "rm" line, but make a symlink (ln -s) to whatever your directory is.
