I'm definitely in need of some help. I've gone through the PPC install guide and am at the section to install (GRP) packages. I've successfully emerged the gnome-base package, but when I run startx, the screen goes blank and then the server crashes w/ a fatal error caught 7... or something like that. I've placed gdm as my windowmanager and Gnome as my XSession. Is there something I'm missing? I've searched for VESA in the PPC forums and haven't come across anything that's helped me... and my menuconfig for my kernel (2.6.8-r4) doesn't even show the option to have a VESA driver compiled. Trust me, I've looked everywhere. I'd try and post my Xorg logfile, but I'm running in Classic (my main OS). Any help?

Yup. Now it's just a matter of getting sound to work. I've followed some info on thought in the forums, but, even after compiling my kernel to the liking, no sound. I think maybe I have one too many mixers (3 installed via the kernel). Gonna dump two and see if that gets the sound up and running. BTW, esound is emerged, as well as ALSA. That isn't bad, is it?

Could you point me in the direction of the threads that helped you get X working?

Yes, could you please post your xorg.conf and kernel config file?

BTW, how many fps do you get with glxgears?

Well, i managed to get X.org w/DRI working on my setup,, Here's my xorg.conf file:

# By default, Red Hat 6.0 and later now use a font server independent of
# the X server to render fonts.

# For XFS, uncomment this and comment the others
