When emerging samba I get the following error

Compiling tdb/tdb.c with -fPIC
Compiling tdb/spinlock.c with -fPIC
tdb/tdb.c: In function `tdb_open_ex':
tdb/tdb.c:1733: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault

I am new to this PPC world and have used default settings in make.conf

CFLAGS="-O2 -mtune=G4 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -fno-strict-aliasing -pipe"
CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"

Are these correct?
Has anyone compiled samba OK on the Macmini?

Haven't tried compiling samba, but I've had "internal compiler" errors while playing music at the same time. Every compile while not playing music has completed ok so far. Maybe the mini overheats a bit too much, resulting in this kind of weirdness, or the snd-powermac interferes in a nasty way.
My cflags etc are identical to yours.

Another possibility is that you have kernel preemption compiled into your kernel. Kernel preemption is still unstable on the PPC platform, so turn it off and recompile your kernel if you've got it in.

Ah, that could well be. That option is indeed enabled atm.
I'll set that straight and recompile.

I was having similar problems with a G3 ibook. I had tested the memory and even tried scaling back the cpu frequency, but was still getting segmentation faults when building C++ applications (had problems with some gnome packages and with kdelibs). I was starting to think that I had a bad processor, but then was looking at my kernel config and found preempt on. I recompiled without preempt and my C++ compile seg faults vanished.

Thanks
Turning off kernel preemption has fixed it for me.
