I have the same problem, then for some reason when I installed mplayerplug-in everything worked fine for gmplayer and the plugin screen was all blue and no picture. I did the uninstall and reinstall but it's still blue screen. Xmms is also a blue screen. I thought the blue tint was bad ... but at least I could see the video ... now the skins are normal but two out of three players have blue screens when I try to run video on them......

What DefaultDepth is your screen set to in /etc/X11/xorg.conf? My problem with the blue mplayer gui wasn't solved until this morning, when I noticed that my DefaultDepth was set to "16". I just bought a new monitor a couple days ago, so I decided to set DefaultDepth to "24" and -- voila -- the next time I launched mplayer with gui, everything was perfect again. It was something that I never suspected, and I had to look a few times at the screen to make sure I wasn't seeing things, but that was definitely the culprit on my machine. I reproduced it, by the way, by restarting my xserver with a DefaultDepth of "16" and my mplayer's gui was again blue-shifted (all skins were blue).
