Howto: exchange4linux from source

1. grab all necesary files from https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23922
put the ebuild into ${PORTDIR_OVERLAY}/net-mail/exchange4linux, the rest into ${PORTDIR_OVERLAY}/net-mail/exchange4linux/files
don't forget to chmod +x :wink:

2. create digest
Code:
 ebuild ${PORTDIR_OVERLAY}/net-mail/exchange4linux/exchange4linux-2.5.8.0.ebuild digest

3. emerge e4l
Code:
emerge exchange4linux

4. configure postgresql
Code:
 ebuild /var/db/pkg/dev-db/postgresql-${PV}/postgresql-${PV} config

5. start omniORB
Code:
/etc/init.d/omniORB start

6. start postgresql
Code:
/etc/init.d/postgresql start

7. fire up e4l
Code:
/etc/init.d/exchange4linux start

now you should have a working e4l-server. i don't know if the imap-stuff is working, don't need it here. tomorrow i'm trying to connect the server to some outlook client's..... hope it works :D

ah, and let me know if i forgott something....

thanks!

thanks for the howto.

did all the installations without errors.
but when i start try to do /etc/init.d/exchange4linux admin

i get the following

Quote:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./pg_dbctl.py", line 37, in ?
import TunePG
File "/usr/share/exchange4linux/BILL-StorageServer/TunePG.py", line 29, in ?

import myLock
File "/usr/share/exchange4linux/BILL-StorageServer/myLock.py", line 29, in ?
import MsgStore

import msgstore_idl
File "/usr/share/exchange4linux/BILL-StorageServer/msgstore_idl.py", line 28, in ?
import omniORB, _omnipy
ImportError: No module named omniORB

i even remerged dev-python/omniorbpy-2.3 without success.

okay figured it out.

since i have python 2.3 installed the script had the pyhton path hard coded to 2.2
so changing the omniorbpy-2.3.ebuild to this solved the problem

Code:
#MY_PY=/usr/bin/python`python -c "import sys; print sys.version[:3]"`
#MY_PY=/usr/bin/python2.3
python_version
MY_PY=/usr/bin/python$PYVER

sweet... I'm gonna give this a try... :)
I just d/l'ed the iso from their site, but apparently it's a boot disk, and I just want to test this in my current gentoo system :)

thanks for the howto m8!

edit: hmmm... these ebuilds are for version 2.5.8.0
I'll try to make it work for 3.0 though :)

edit2: this ebuild doesn't quite work with the newer version... I'll try to make my own ebuild with the newest version, but can't promiss anything...

edit3: I couldn't get this thing running at all...
but I stumbled onto an installation tut on the pages of exchange4linux...
