I've been searching the forums and found many people getting my error, but only when GLX isn't loaded. I've installed x/nvidia drivers many times before, but I've never come across this before. My glxinfo is giving me:

bash-2.05b# glxinfo
name of display :0.0
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual

visual x bf lv rg d st colorbuffer ax dp st accumbuffer ms cav
id dep cl sp sz l ci b ro r g b a bf th cl r g b a ns b eat
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(bunch of numbers here)

and glxgears is simply saying

glxgears: Error: couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual.

I've added the users to the video group, I'm loading glx and dbe, no dri, the x server isn't giving any errors. I am loading the "nvidia" driver for the display. Anyone have any advice?

Do you have a default depth in the screen section of your xorg.conf?

I found a post that's almost identical to yours that I got that from: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=11983

Glad it worked. Just to let you guys know this is a dupe though, so it'll be moved soon =P.
