I have two dead powerbooks; an old 400 MHz titanium with a broken LCD, and an 867 MHz with a dead chipset (is this common?). Anyway, I thought I would replace the 400 MHZ broken screen (14") with that of the 867 machine.

Connectors are the same; so I dissassembled both computers (painfully!), swapped monitors; and voila! It doesn't work as expected. The machine works fine, apart from the fact that there is random noise in a column at the rightmost end of the screen, and a similar row in the bottom part of it (around 1.2 X 1 inch). The rest of the screen works fine. I get the same behaviour in OSX, openfirmware and linux. It would seem the pll's are not correct so they are not covering the whole screen.

Is there something I could try in openfirmware to change this, or for some reason they simply are incompatible?
