The stable release of kernel 2.6.11 has just been made public. Has anybody had any luck yet compiling it?

gentoo-dev-sources. done... and done... also, I patched it for Win4Lin (worked fine, the msot recent patch from PickledOnion)... and since I still have no idea if the ATAPI cd burning works WITHOUT it yet, I also patched the cddvd-cmdfilter-drop.patch (when i DONT use that patch, I can not burn as a regular user... ?!?)

The only problem I have encountered so far, which may or may not be related to this kernel.... possibly some other random upgrade issue.... I can no longer read analog from my cd-audio. digital extraction is fine, so no biggie.... but it's bugging me.

I have a problen with 2.6.11
Code:
LD      init/built-in.o
  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
mm/built-in.o(.rodata.cst4+0x0): relocation truncated to fit: R_PPC_ADDR32 empty_zero_page+40000000
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1
PPC_ADDR32 emptymm/built-in.o(.rodata.cst4+0x0): relocation truncated to fit: R_

source :
Code:

wget http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/linux-2.6.11.tar.bz2
tar -xjvf linux-2.6.11.tar.bz2
mv linux-2.6.11 /usr/src/linux-2.6.11
cd /usr/src/
rm linux
ln -s linux-2.6.11 linux
cd linux
cp /usr/src/linux-2.6.10/.config .config
make menuconfig
make all && make modules_install

! EDIT [resolved] with uncheck the line in 'Platform options'
Code:
[ ] Support for PReP Residual Data

Interesting... I am having this problem on a G4 with linux-2.6.11-gentoo-r3...

Code:
  GEN     .version
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  UPD     include/linux/compile.h
  CC      init/version.o
  LD      init/built-in.o
  LD      .tmp_vmlinux1
mm/built-in.o(.rodata.cst4+0x0): relocation truncated to fit: R_PPC_ADDR32 empty_zero_page+40000000
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

and I do have that field unset:

Code:
# grep -i prep .config
CONFIG_PPC_PREP=y
# CONFIG_PREP_RESIDUAL is not set

Let the googling begin!

I thought about trying that, but I really like being able to use all my RAM. Does anyone know what the root cause of this problem is? I suppose I will continue using 2.6.10-gentoo-r6 for now.

FWIW, it seems that this HIGHMEM problem is solved with 2.6.11-gentoo-r10.

I am using 2.6.11 #10 vanilla, and all works.... instead of the cd burning (on a powerbook aluminium 15)...

Do you think the cd burning problem is due to a kernel problem? I can create cds, but the have got problems when I read it on all computers I have.
