I recently installed all the ATI driver stuff, 8.10.19, and for some odd reason, most opengl applications either seem as if they're not accelerated at all (Celestia runs at almost the same speed using opengl-update ati as it does opengl-update xorg-x11), or it spits me out a whole bunch of these errors (for example, when running fgl_glxgears):
FGLTexMgr: open of shared memory object failed (Function not implemented)
__FGLTexMgrCreateObject: __FGLTexMgrSHMmalloc failed!!!
fglX11AllocateManagedSurface: __FGLTexMgrCreateObject failed!!

Has anyone seen this problem?

Yes, it's actually one of the problems ATI themselves have an article about. See here.

Hm... I can't see the article... do they propose any fixes? Or is it just a wait until next version thing?

Ah, sorry about that link. For anyone else reading this thread, the fix can be found in the release notes under the heading "3D Applications Produce Open of Shared Memory Object Failed Error Message".
