Sorry, im not to knowledged about the differences between xorg and xfree. Anyways, workn on this installation still, got linux running finally. On the other hand, i have not been able to get X to work properly. I was wondering if I could use configuration (http://ppcconfdb.sourceforge.net/conf/PowerBook_G4_1250MHz-15.2_Aluminium/etc/X11/XF86Config-4-15-Nov-2003) for xorg. I know this is for xfree, but would it work? If not, this there any way I could make this work? (btw im on a pb 1ghz, with a nvidia gfx... so I would have to alter the video card part at least, + its a 12" screen, not a 15") thanx.

Ok, I went ahead and did it, and it worked, for the most part. I do recieve three errors though, which if yall could help me, I would be very happy. The errors are as follows (EE) Failed to load module "dri","glx" and "speedo". also (WW) NV: More than oen matching Device section found: Card 1. Thanks. This thread may be dead now, but its worth trying a little longer.

Do you have DRI enabled in your kernel?

Also, post a bit more of the startup output from Xorg. It might help to see the full content of the log.

Oh wait-- you've got an nvidia graphics card. I believe that their drivers are purely proprietary and x86-only, so you are probably outta luck for hardware-accelerated opengl. The errors about dri and glx come from that problem....

yea.. for some reason I got x to work with this configuration once. But now it does not work at all. I was happy to hear that there was a nvidia card in my laptop, for those "are" supported under linux. Unfortuantly, im screwed in that department qwith my mac, thus no hardware acceleration. This is not looking pretty. Is there any way for me to get gnome working or some other graphical desktop working without needing opengl, or any hardware acceleration?

You can try emerging Xautoconfig, it should be able to configure Xorg for you automatically.

speedo has been deprecated. Just comment it out (or delete it) from the config file.
